The 1962 New York Mets season was the first regular season for the Mets. The Mets finished the season with a record of 40-120. They were managed by Casey Stengel, and played their home games at the Polo Grounds. They are rather infamous for their futility, and were one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball history.

The 1962 Mets currently hold the 4th worst final winning percentage (.250) for any Major League Baseball team in history. It is also the worst final season record since Major League Baseball moved to a 162 game schedule in 1961. The 1962 Mets are the only team in the post 1900 era to lose 120 games in a single season.
